Alright! The title is not 100% true. I still do procrastinate sometimes and I still do my own stuff like chatting, videogaming, staring at the blank wall..hmm, did I mention videogaming? But, kidding aside, I can say that after 3 to 4 days of using this amazing online app to my daily tasks, I cannot help but share this to the my avid readers, yes, that includes you. So let’s see what HabitRPG has to offer.
What’s Amazing About HabitRPG
It is a game! For videogamers like me, this is an awesome catch. You get to have experience and health points as you progress through your tasks. Finished and unfinished tasks have consequences through motivation and punishment schemes.
It is a community. You can share your passion with people having similar interests. A group can accomplish a goal together and get rewarded for that. If one postpones a task, the whole cluster suffers. It is one of the best ways to make challenging things happen.
It is applicable to almost anything. One can learn to play the guitar, speak a new language or finish a school project. I can say that it is useful to all sorts of tasks, hobbies or even in accomplishing a bucket list.
How it has helped me
Firstly, it has reduced my laziness. It reminds me of my commitment to achieve something big through small chunks of daily and even hourly to-dos. Since I am currently doing 3 projects, this has pushed me to go beyond my limits and complete what I thought was not possible in a given time. Also, when the going gets tough, the rewards get me going. Although it is virtual, the success is totally gratifying.
The Downside
Like most games, you can cheat. Of course you can say that you have completed a task. But ticking a task as completed without actually doing it is self-deception. So, avoid shortcuts. I still believe in the saying that “the harder the task, the greater the glory”.
Who can benefit from this?
This is definitely perfect for every geek who wants to have his or her work done in a fun way. This is for your mom, your dad, your siblings, your friends; this is for you.
So as I finish this entry, let me just share a riddle that Gollum asked Bilbo:
This thing all things devours;
Birds, beasts, trees, flowers;
Gnaws iron, bites steel;
Grinds hard stones to meal;
Slays king, ruins town,
And beats mountain down.
The answer is TIME. So, yeah, since time is a priceless commodity, we better make the most out of it while we still have it.
